Precision T1700 - Windows XP drivers?

I realize T1700 is not supported on XP, and that generally, Haswell hardware isn't either.

That said, is there a way to get at least the NIC working on XP (outside of getting an add-on PCIe one)?

T1700 (pdf specs) is supposed to have the same on-board NIC as the T1650: "Integrated Intel 82579 Gigabit Ethernet controller". Except is doesn't: T1650 NIC drivers don't work on T1700 ("no adapters found"), same story with generic 82579 drivers from Intel. In really reality the NIC appears to be a newer Intel I2xx hardware - which doesn't seem to have XP drivers either.

Has anyone been successful getting T1700's on-board NIC and graphics to work on XP?

Thanks!

Hi KINDZMARAULI,

we have received a lot of Dell Precision T1700, without the Intel 82579 network adaptater specified in the techs specsheet.

The network adaptater is the Intel I217-LM (ven_8086:dev_153A), with no support and no driver for XP...

The Intel I217-LM specsheet say "The Intel® Ethernet Controller I217 is highly compatible with the Intel® 82579 GbE Controller",  and 82579 NIC have a XP 32bit driver available.

http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/ethernet-controller-i217-family-brief.pdf

I have presumed that I217 have a tech design similar to the 82579, so I have cheat Windows XP to use the 82579 driver, and it works like a charm

Here is the procedure:

- download the last Intel XP network drivers from Intel website (version 18.3)

- unzip the .exe to your hard drive

- edit the .inf file named "e1c5132.inf" in PRO1000/Win32/NDIS5x (it the infi file for the 82579 driver)

- replace all text (accurrences, patern,...)  "1502" by "153A" in this file

- go to your harware panel and try install the driver again (tell Windows to search driver in PRO1000/...

- Windows will install ther 82579LM driver and it just work (with IPv4, not tested with IPv6)

Thats all

Hi Kindzmarauli,

You're going to need to install the chipset driver first or any driver installer is unlikely to recognize the hardware. Did you find a chipset driver that works?

Thanks much for the response! Now I understand why even the audio and RST drivers don't install. :(

No, haven't found the chipset drivers, and from what I read, none are available or forthcoming. :(  I.e. I won't be able to run XP on T1700 w/o an add-on NIC and GPU.

If you hear otherwise, please let me know.

Thank you! I used a different machine to install XP to avoid headaches, but I much appreciate the response! I am sure it'll help someone else.

That fix worked for me. I don't have the audio driver but it doesn't really matter since the T1700 is going to be used as an Andover Continuum server. Thanks for your help.
