RAM NOT RUNNING AT 800MHZ INSTEAD AT 667MHZ---INSPIRON 545S

Can anyone help me with this problem??

My Inspiron 545s has 4 slots for ram, each slot contains a 2 GB chip of ram, with a total of 8 GB of ram. Two of the chips are  Topram 2GB ddr2 800Mhz pc2-6400. The other Two are Crucial 2GB ddr2 800Mhz pc2-6400. I tested each chip at a time to check the frequency of them and they each measured 800Mhz. But when I put the 4 chips all at once the frequency measures at 667Mhz. I was wondering why. Is it because there's something wrong with my system?

Maximum Memory: 8192

Number Of Slots: 4

4 Operator

Hi, Introvert007:

Please refer to the memory configuration page of your manual

. The matched modules should be in slots 1/3 and 2/4.

Welcome to the forums :emotion-21:

It *could* just be that the motherboard only supports 667MHz RAM :emotion-55:

I suspect that the bios defaults to 667 since your occupying all 4 dimm slots. In your earlier post you indicated that 800 was achievable if you used 1 or 2 slots but not all 4. This is a comon problem with some mb's since there is much more voltage demand for 4 slots. The work around would be to increase your voltage until your reading 800 mhz but with the supplied mb I don't think that is possible since these options are typically blanked out by Dell to ensure system stability.

I have the exact same issue.  I  was running 6GB of PC2 6400 at 800MHz without issue.  I then removed the two 1GB modules and added two 2GB modules of matched 800MHz, for a total of 8GB 6400.  Problem is, the system will only run at 667MHZ when you add the additional RAM and there is no provision in the system bios to adjust the speed or voltage. This is in a 545s with an E8400 CPU.

Perhaps someone from Dell could chime in on this?
