RAM Speed Incorrect

Hi,  I have 2 PC's that won't show the right RAM Speed in the BIOS, one is a DIMENSION 2400 PC I put 256MB / 333MHz DDR SDRAM into and it only shows as 266 MHz.  The other is a DIMENSION 4600 PC I put 1GB / 400MHz DDR SDRAM into and it only shows 333 MHz...?  Both RAM Chips are Non ECC (required).  I put the RAM chips in Slot 1 on both PC's.  The manuals for each PC say the RAM size and speed I am installing is compatible.  The BIOS does show the correct amount of RAM, 256MB and 1GB respectively.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  TXS

This Wiki article says the early Northwood P4 doubled the secondary cache to 512KB and used a version of the 845 chipset with DDR support "providing double the bandwidth of the PC133 version to the Pentium 4." That was following the Willamette P4 using first RDRAM and then an 845 chipset supporting PC133.

This 2003 article says "Intel's 845 chipset shipped with a 533-MHz FSB but had a memory bus that supported 266-MHz memory, which is half the bandwidth the processor required."

GreyMack, thanks for info.  On the 4600 I swapped out the 2.8/533/512 cpu with a 2.8/800/512 cpu and now it is reading the full 400Mhz for the RAM.  It also allows fot the HyperThreading (HT) option to be turned on.  On the 2400 I swapped out the 2.4/400/128 cpu with a 2.8/533/512 (old one from 4600) and now it will register at 333Mhz but still not 400Mhz for RAM.  After some research I found that in order for HT to work on the 2400 I would need the 3.06/533/512 cpu.  However it did mention anything about the speed of the RAM...  Thanks to all

As indicated in my first post, the highest speed the 2400 can use is 333.

Taken from the 2400 Documentation:

"Memory type

PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC)"

Glad you got your answers. How much speed difference is there with the processor swap?
