Realtek HD Audio doesn't work on XPS running Windows 10
After installing Windows 10, my sound quit working. I get sound from the headphone jack using Creative SBX fi as the playback device, but that's it. Realtek HD audio, which I believe is what I was using, doesn't work AND says "not plugged in", even though it is. Cables checked and work fine through the phones jack.
I tried uninstalling then downloading and installing the realtek driver and the card driver from the Dell site as directed. After restarting, everything is the same and Windows says everything is up to date. And the drivers the answers pointed to didn't include Windows 10. I've looked through the forums and have seen similar problems, but the solutions suggested haven't worked for me.

You have not specified a model, but I have had similar issues with XPS 435MT.
The solution is in this thread.
