SIGMATEL - Driver Installing Drivers after Clean Install
I have a Dell Dimension 9100 and I am trying to reinstall the device drivers after a Windows XP clean installation. I have downloaded all the drivers that the Dell support page has shown for my service tag.
This is what Dell is saying I need for my system:

I don't think that it is giving me all the correct drivers for my system. I have noticed several drivers that don't apply to my system. I have a16X DVD+/-RW and it is showing drivers for a 48X CD and DVD R/W. I have a Radeon x300 Graphics Card and it is also showing drivers that apply to Radeon X600 and x850. I believe that it is showing me all the drivers for all the options for my computer model. I haven't updated my system configuration using the Dell tool to read your configuration. Could that be the reason that I am getting extraneous drivers. I believe it is giving me too many drivers. For instance, it is showing thirteen drivers for video alone and as I mentioned, some of the drivers don't say they apply to my graphics card.
Does anyone know what the easiest way to get the correct drivers? I don't have an intenet connection yet on the new windows install so I can't run the dell tool to read my configuration. If anyone with superior knowledge could compare the above driver list with my system configuration bellow, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I don't have a Dimension 9100 but try this:
The first thing to do is to check what version BIOS is installed in your Dimension 9100 and update to A03 if necessary.
Then restart the PC to XP and open Device Manager / Hardware. Open the IDE ATA/ ATAPI Controller; Sound, Video and Game Controller; Display Adapter; and Network Adapter entries. Copy and paste the display to Word or whatever and print it.
Load the Dell Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM and it should have a check against each of the drivers suitable for your computer (at top of the list). Check this against the list you printed from Device Manager / Hardware.
Install the Dell Drivers and Software in following order:
1) Dell Desktop System Software. Reboot.
2) Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility driver. Reboot.
3) Video driver (ATI Radeon x300). Reboot.
4) Dell Monitor driver.
5) Audio Driver (Sigmatel?). Reboot.
6) Network interface driver (Intel Pro/100 VE ?). Reboot and Install JAVA from Dell Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM or Java.com.
7) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 from Windows XP System CD-ROM (dotnetfix.exe file.). Reboot.
8) Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver. Reboot. (Update driver accordingly in Device Manager.)

Thanks I will update to A03.
I printed out the device list from the device manager, however I have already performed the installation of Windows XP so I am not sure what information I am getting from the device manager list (just the devices names?).
I didn't receive a Dell Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM from the person I bought this Dell Computer from (it was bought second-hand and I can't find his number so I don't think I can get it from him. This is frustrating that Dell doesn't provide clear directions for their drivers. They should provide me with a copy of the original installed drivers and I shouldn't have to go through detective work like this, don't you think? If I call them they will charge me because my warranty is up.
I have tried to go to manufacturers to see the recommended drivers for their hardware but the manufacturers don't list them on the site. Is there any website that lists drivers for hardware for free?

I printed out the device list from the device manager, however I have already performed the installation of Windows XP so I am not sure what information I am getting from the device manager list (just the devices names?).

I suggest you:

3. Device Manager shows the devices recognized by WIN XP. If it says under Video Adapter that it is an ATI X300, then download the ATI 300 driver from Dell and install it. (You already said this in your first post under "Information", "Card, Graphics, X300".
