Sounds like you have an older version of Dell's Roxio software. Try the hotfix in the link below - it says Update Manager, but it's basically the same problem:

If that doesn't work: try to remove Sonic Update Manager and/or Sonic Activation module from Add/Remove. If they won't remove, or still pop up, try this to clean up the remnants - note that with Windows Installer Cleanup you should ONLY remove those 2 Sonic entries. Don't select anything else.

I also keep getting the Sonic Update Manager install pop-up loop. I have tried to remove the program via Add/Remove programs -- failed. I then did a search for UM.MSI on the C drive -- nothing. I went to MSCONFIG to find/remove any reference to Sonic in startup and nothing. I tried to download the hotfix and the Windows Installer Cleanup but both failed as I was already in the process of another download.... the Sonic Update Manager......I have searched the net for ideas (most same as yours)... any more ideas on how I can get this fixed/removed???
