Studio 540 buzz?
Hi,
Recently received a used 540 in excellent cosmetic condition - 32-bit - quad core. Great, but compared with my Inspiron 531 which runs silently, the 540 has a buzz. Could it be a misaligned fan or something please?
Many thanks.

The CPU is taxed less when running a 64-bit OS, so no.
Of course there's no harm installing an extra fan if you have the room.

Hi kr236rk,
The best way to tell is to open up the system and listen to the various components. It could be the case fan or the video card fan. I recommend you replace a bad case fan with a Dell part.

Thanks, I don't think it carries a video card (PCI?) fan. It has the rear cabinet fan, cpu (heat sink) fan, and of course the PSU fan. I cleaned them all out with a thin nozzle connected to a mild vacuum cleaner and it seems to have helped.
Trouble is, how can you tell one fan from another - there are 3 whirring away in very close proximity to one another.
?

Looks a bit concerning?

Are these temperatures ok please?
Can I plug an extra fan inside the case? I have a usb-powerd fan, does anybody else do this?
Thanks

I'm not sure what temp 1, temp 2 and temp 3 refer to. Your CPU temps look perfectly fine.

Many thanks.
Might the cpu run hot if I clean install to 64-bit Vista from the current 32-bit version please - allowing me 8GB over the present 4GB Ram?
I have a spare, small usb fan. I was also wondering if I could place that inside the case (quite roomy inside) to improve cooling / through-flow of air?
