Studio XPS Desktop 7100 DVD Burner WILL NOT create Recovery Disks!

I received this last Thursday (June 10). After getting it set up I attempted to create the Recovery Disks using the Dell Datasafe . Tried 3 times and each time I received an error that said "Burn Failed"  I also tried burning a boot disk using  Windows DVD burn. That failed too. I used DVD+R each time. I then tried using DVD+RW that failed as well.

Friday I  went ahead an installed my software (Adobe, Office and Sony Video Editting software) because I needed to get some work done.

Saturday I spent 3 hours on the telephone with Tech Support via REMOTE in India. They re installed the Dell DataSafe software, tried making Recovery Disks. The drivers are up to date.

Dell Tech authorized a replacement DVD unit for me. The Tech came to my house today, Tuesday June 15. She installed the new unit, drivers are updated and GUESS WHAT - the new DVD unit failed to burn a Recovery Disk and the Tech support rep reported that the new unit didn't burn.

She thinks its a software problem related to something called "codec" I do not know what that is.

The Roxio software failed to work on both units also, burning a DVD BUT I could burn a CD+R on both units.

With both units I was able to burn a photo slideshow on  DVD+R using a different DVD burning software program (Sony).

The Dell Tech support is supposed to call me Thursday.

I just spent $1700 for this and we're off to a bad start with Dell.

Anyone have suggestions as to why the DVD drive is not finalizing the burns in Windows, Roxio and DataSafe?

Thanks

jim

The better section to post this in, would be the Disk Drives (HDD, CD/DVD, Blu-ray) HERE.
