Switch from McAfee to Norton?

The year of McAfee that came with my XPS T500 is about up. Does anyone have an opinion about whether my system is better served by switching to
Norton? I have managed to download DAT updates
all year, but the thought of upgrading from my 4.02 engine or uninstalling McAfee makes me
break out into a sweat. I do know from past exper-
ience, though, that this forum is capable of pulling me out of a trap! S.

You will get free DAT updates after the year is up.

Sorry Terry, didn't mean to step on you like that.

I'd personally recommend Norton over McAfee, less overall problems. With Norton though don't opt for any of the Auto this or that. Just install and use the basics. Uninstalling McAfee is a real challenge. The best instruction set I've run across is here. Good Luck

Terry, do you mean that I don't have to do anything,
(but keep updating DATs) until i have to go to a new engine? I get notes that say I have "XX days" left
but I won't be cut off when the days are up? S.

That's correct, you just will not be able to get
the engine upgrades.

Admittedly things may be different now but the version of McAfee that came with my Dell in late 98 stopped being updated and after awhile no new DATS were available either. The only option was to pay to update to their latest version at the time. I chose to go with Norton (SystemWorks in my case) and while I can't say there's been NO problems overall I am happier with it than I was with Mc"Afee. I don't recall the uninstall as being that hard, pretty sure it was Dell Tech support that I got the instuctions from.

Thanks. Sounds like I may have a little more time
since DAT files are still compatible with the 4.00
engines. Thanks for the tip about getting tech
support before tackling the eventual upgrade. S.
