Switch processors on motherboard?
Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 420 with the Q6600 core2quad @ 2.4 ghz processor
My question is: Can I install a E8500 core2quad @ 3.1 ghz processor in it.
Would it be about 25% faster?
Any special problems that I might run into?

While it should work, the E8500 is a dual core CPU, not a quad. And while the CPU might be 25% faster, remember the rest of the system stays the same, You won't see anything like a 25% difference overall - maybe 5-8%.

Thanks for saying the E8500 is a dual core. The owner of the computer says it's a quad core.
I now know he is mistaken.
