System Fan not detected - Dimension 8100

Out of nowhere I started getting the message "Alert.  System fan not detected" while booting up.  I have not added any software or hardware.

I have done the following:

1.  Replaced the fan.

2.  Cleared by NVRAM with the Alt/E deal in safe mode.

3.  Cleared by System Event Log while in safe mode.

4.  Re-installed by BIOS from floppy.

5.  Changed System Mode to S1 from S3.

Still getting the error message and all fans are running fine.

What is going on??  How do I get rid of the error message??  Things seem to be working fine.

Did you install a Dell fan?

The case/processor fans for Dell systems, are proprietary units,

Bev.

Yes, I installed a Dell fan.  Still got the error message.

The last time I talked with Dell support, they concluded it is a motherboard problem and told me how to run a diagnostic.  However, when I was booting up and punching the F12 key, I got an message that said Keyboard Error and it would not let me proceed.

I did a system restore - not luck.  I did a XP reinstall - no luck (other than to screw up a bunch of other stuff that took me hours to fix!).

I'm stumped.  Tempted to strip this down, ebay parts and buy a new system with Vista.

HELP!!

I have a similar problem. Got drive error messages, then similar problems to this. My fan is bad (grinds and barely runs now. Going to order a new one from Sky Graphics or other. However, from other research I have done (Dell is not always so helpful), it may be a mother board problem I await other posts with interest.
