Dell does not normally sell cpus.  They also do not sell upgrade cpus.  Warranty and support are only for the original cpu.

I know this is an old old thread now, but I'm looking to upgrade my cpu (i7-930) to a i7-970 or 980 or 975x.   Do you know if this table was for the original BIOS A00?  The most current one is A04 and all it says in the release notes is "support for new intel cpus".  Doesn't have a list like this.  Can anyone help me out ? Anyone at Dell? Is anyone running these CPUS I listed on motherboard 05dn3x with Rev A04?  It would really be helpful to know!  Thanks!

Prior to installing the new processor, you need to update the BIOS to the latest version.

Yes I know, that's what I did already (updated to A04).  The question is which CPUS were in this "updated" list.  Chris from Dell answered in another thread that these cpus are supported:

Validated CPU with Dell 5 digit part number =

HXGV2 Gulftown i7-990X, 3.46GHz, B1

F3VGJ GulfTown i7-980X, 3.33GHz, 12MB, B1

152W9 GulfTown i7-970, 3.20GHz, 12MB, B1

MNWGW Bloomfield i7-960, 3.20GHz, 8MB, D0

VRDMW Bloomfield i7-930, 2.80GHz, 8MB, D0

G442M Bloomfield i7-920, 2.66GHz, 8MB, C0

1GKT0 Bloomfield i7-920, 2.66GHz, 8MB, D0

But I still don't see the i7-975 or i7-980, which are the two that I am most interested in.   Though I'm thinking they probably will work since the release date on the BIOS is 10/31/2011 and the latest CPU, the i7-980, was released in Q2, 2011.   Does anyone have these on their XPS with BIOS revision A04?  I found another thread where someone installed a Xeon as well.  Just wish Dell would have listed what the udpates actually were in the BIOS update notes.
