Video streaming using Dimension 2400
I just hooked up my old Dimension to TV for streaming Netflix. Wifi is working ok, internet is ok but movies are slow and pixilated. Do I need to change my PCI graphics card?

Hi Seltten,
Welcome to the community.
Understand the inconvenience you may have experienced. Glad to help.
Changing the graphics card would be the last resort. Before you do that, please do the following:
Step 1: Re-install the Graphic Card drivers
Step 2: Re-install the Chipset drivers
Step 3: Please install the compatible Direct X component that matches your operating system
These steps should result into a much improved video reception.
In case, you encounter any challenge locating the appropriate drivers, please write back with the names of the graphics card, chipset and operating system. (You can find that information in device manager).
Thank You,
Saurabh

Hi Seltten,
Welcome to the community.
You may try to update the video drivers of the computer.
And in order to assist you better, we would need some more information.
Could you please let me know the resolution which you have set for display.
And Could you please let me know the specifications of the TV which you are trying to connect.

The 2400 has onboard video of very limited capability. For Netflix streaming, I suggest adding an 8400GS PCI video card like this.

Hi rdunnill,
Welcome to the community.
In this case, you would require a dedicated video card.
Your computer has 3 PCI slots. You can certainly go ahead and add GeForce 8400GS video card in your computer. It is compatible with your computer and should work fine.

Hello Hardeep:
A discrete video card is the only solution here, as the onboard graphics weren't designed for this task. As an added bonus, the newer version of the Sparkle 8400GS has both native HDMI and an onboard sound device, so if the 2400 is connected to a modern TV both sound and video can be had via a single HDMI connection.

Hi rdunnill,
Welcome to the community,
This is the only option that we have. You can add a discrete card on the PCI slot.
You should get a good quality of picture and audio.
Please let us know if if works for you.

i dont know if that old of a CPU can push HD video even using the Nvidia 8400gs ... the HD video and silverlight are still going to choke up i think ... thats a really slow P4 system.

I have a 2350 set up with 8400GS and Blu-ray player ... CPU usage is high and there are some dropped frames, but it will play.
