Virtual Memory, what should it be set at?

i changed my Virtual memory and forget what the original settings were.

Vostrol 200 and i'm running windows vista home 32bit with 4Gb of ram, came with 2GB, i put in another 2GB

i have it set right now at:

INITIAL SIZE: 4396MB

MAXIMUM SIZE: 10240MB.

i thought i took a screen shot before i changed, it but i guess not.

what is the ORIGINAL DEFAULT SETTING for the 2 numbers

and what is recommended for my amount of RAM etc

please help me.

thanks

Just let Windows manage the virtual memory by checking the box "Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives."  Vista does a good enough job that it's not worth tinkering with (at least that's what I've read from the "experts").

I have read some articles on tweaking your system that espouse running virtual memory at twice ram. This is the setting I run my machine on, I have more HDD than I will ever use. I don't know that it made any difference in performance from the automanaged setting. I think unless your are an extreme user you will probably never notice a performance difference. There is an argument some make, that too much virtual memory invites sloppy use of the resource by the machine, but I'm too long out of school to remember it exactly.
