Vostro 220 BIOS freezes with Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
I have a Vostro 220 (mini tower) that freezes for 1-2 minutes when the BIOS is at the "Initializing USB Controllers" stage if a Logitech Illuminated USB keyboard is plugged in. I can't use the keyboard to enter the BIOS (F2 or F12), but the keyboard works fine once in Vista. Tried different ports, same problem.
The Logitech keyboard works fine on other computers that I have. The stock Dell keyboard works fine on the Vostro 220.
Logitech seems to be pointing to a BIOS problem. I'm using the latest BIOS, v1.1.4.
Link to the keyboard: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/I_O_Devices/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A2136825
Any suggestions?

Sorry, I should have said the A16 bios update fixed the LIK problems on my XPS 9000. Don't know if they have a bios update for the Vostro...

>>Logitech seems to be pointing to a BIOS problem. I'm using the latest BIOS, v1.1.4.<<
I just went to the Dell site, entered my service tag and they still only recommend ver 1.3.0 dated 6/24/2010 for my machine. I did find a reference to ver 1.1.4 under other options but seeing that it's not much help I'll hold off until a later update is available. Dell can't keep on selling the keyboards and at the same time keep on ignoring the problem.:(((

Thanks for updating the thread Tusnilloc - I had been hoping this would get around to being fixed eventually. I have an XPS 435T which was rebadged as the XPS 9000 shortly after I bought it and the new bios worked for me also!

WOW........I have not checked this forum in a very long time. It seemed that no fix was coming and no new posts were being made here. I still had the link in my favorites and for some reason last night I thought I would check in.
I never check for updates at Dell so had no idea there was a new bios out. I installed A16 and unplugged the keyboard from the PCI USB card I have been using and plugged into one of the main USB ports. Now my 435T works as should have from the beginning.
Thanks to Dell for this but we should not have had to wait for over a year for this fix.

I just used a cheap no-brand card I found on eBay for about 5 dollars. Worked great for me.

i've been following this thread for almost two years, and my understanding is that dell did finally release a BIOS fix (A16) for the XPS, so i just can't see why they can't do the same for vostro????

Is that a typo or did you really mean BIOS version 1.0.3? Latest BIOS released for the Vostro 220 is version 1.3.0.
If that's not a typo, I can't say if version 1.3.0, or a prior update, will fix this problem for you.

Took all wires off. Opened CPU. Took motherboard battery out an started the computer. It worked and later I installed battery again...and it's working...
