Vostro 360 (Inspiron 2320) video problem with latest two Intel HD drivers

Running Vostro 360 with latest BIOS and Intel HD drivers causes display problem that appear as a bad LCD panel.

Latest Intel HD driver version 15.28.24.4229 (9.17.10.4229) creates a mostly white multicolour band. If the left edge is 0% and the right edge is 100%, the band is from 50% to 80%. The rest of the screen initially appears lighter gray but fades towards black.

Using the previous Intel HD driver version 15.28.23.64.4101 (9.17.10.4101), the screen appears almost black, with some mach banding in vertical and horizontal directions.

Windows 7 x64
Clean install
All Dell drivers

Switched Device Installation settings to automatic and updated video driver.

Driver available from Dell support site (version 8.15.10.2401) works, but reports anomalous WinSAT numbers. Initial system setup reported 5.1/5.9 for graphics scores, but now reports 5.1/4.6.

I see no discussion of this issue anywhere so don't know if it's somehow machine specific (seems unlikely) or that people never upgrade drivers.

My secondary concern is that if device installation settings is set to automatic, this driver can update and render the system inaccessible.

Same problem on vostro360 i3 intelHDgraphics : internal monitor not detected and blinking with colors (red/blue/yellow/...) forever, external monitor working OK

I fixed my problem by using the DD disk and installing the original dev driver , here is the version i now have : 8.15.10.2372, 15/04/2011 installed in /driver/R305754, also rev 15.22.2.64.2372

I wonder how to avoid being broken again with future window updates

I'm sure everyone who presents with those symptoms: internal screen messed up but external monitor works; instantly assumes a faulty LCD panel.

Very frustrating that there is no way to block faulty driver updates...

Found the solution as this problem recurs if you upgrade to Windows 10.

Changing the built-in panel refresh rate to 50Hz resolves the problem. You'll need to use an external monitor to do this, and make sure you have the correct resolution (1920x1080).

I've also found that even with the wrong refresh rate, returning from a sleep state will allow the built-in panel to work.

I had this exact condition on a client's Vostro 360. The general symptom was that after Update 1607, the system would work with the Microsoft Base Adapter but video would become corrupted when the Intel HD Graphics were automatically applied. This led to a black display screen with a broad white bar (about ten inches wide) with vertical streaks of color.

To fix it, I:

-Connected an external VGA monitor

-Updated BIOS to A10

-Removed all old video drivers using Guru3 DDU

-Let the system update from Microsoft

This last part required two steps, the first started with installing the Intel HD Graphics driver, followed by the NVidia driver (V47PJ from Dell). On the next update, the system download another NVidia and Intel HD Graphics driver. Both of these installed properly and the machine booted - first to just the spinning circle and then after a hard restart - the Intel HD Graphics driver.

Out of half a dozen Vostro 360 systems, only one exhibited the problem and it was the same white stripe with the latest Intel HD driver whether on Windows 7 or Windows 10.

At the time, the latest Intel HD driver was version 15.28.24.4229 (9.17.10.4229).
