WIll 9800 GTX/ 260GTX fit in XPS 410/Dimension 9200?

Hello, I upgraded my XPS 410 PSU to a 620 watt Enermax Liberty and it works flawlessly.

I am interested in upgrading my video card from a 7900 GS to a GeForce 9800 GTX or GeFore 260 GTXbut I am not sure if it will fit.

9800/260 GTX's are much thicker and longer so I'm not sure if it will fit.

Has anyone succesfully installed a 9800 GTX or 260 GTX in there XPS 410 successfully?

Thank you very much, it is appreciated.

Thank you.

Does anyone have a reccomendation for a solid gfx card for gaming that will not overheat my PC and run fine in such a tight case?

I would give THIS EVGA 9800 GTX+ a try as it is designed differently and a bit shorter than others and only takes one PCIe connector.  I believe it is only 9.5" long versus the original design of 10.5" and it seems to run cool based on reviews.   At Newegg it also comes with a free game.

Well, I just read this post about the XPS 410 and the 9800 GTX and the guy is complaining about a stuttering problem so I am going to have to go with a weaker card.

Any ideas? Would an 8800 GTX be alright with the xps motherboard?

Thank you.

That whole entire issue was because for whatever reason his PCIe bus was reading at x1 instead of x16 like it is suppose to.  EVGA has a lifetime warranty.  If I bought that card and it read that way, I would simply return the card as being bad and not necessarily conclude that it is a motherboard or BIOs problem.  BTW, what processor do you have in your computer?  What size monitor do you have?  The next step down is the 9800 GT's and then the 9600 GT's followed by a much bigger step down with the 8600 GT's.

I don't think there are any 8800 GTX or 8800 GTS cards out there to buy.  The 9800 series have replaced the 8800 series cards.   The EVGA 8800 GTS 512MB would be the only one to consider.  It's recertified, but the price isn't too bad.

Dell E6400 Dual Core

22" Samsung SyncMaster

So 9800 GTX or 9800 GT?

I feel the GT might be a safer bet?

Great card , the only thing I don't like is the 90 day warranty, even Dell will give a 1 year warranty on a refurbished computer.

If you want the lifetime warranty look into EVGA, BFG and XFX.

With your upgraded power supply you can choose from a variety of higher end cards and not worry.

Heat seems to be an issue for you, but there are ways around that.

Using EVGA's Precision Overclocking tool to increase the cards fan speed ( will work for any Nvidia card ) and adding a fan or 2 to the back grill will help.

The machine was sold with an 8800 GTX  (using the stock power supply) so a 9800 GTX or GTX+ shouldn't be a problem and a GTX 280 will fit in the box ( you would just have to be more creative in working out a cooling solution.

Thank you sir, my system runs at about 56-59 C when not in any big programs or games.

Do you know the size of the fan that would go in the back grill because I have a 12cm fan laying around but it may be too big.

Also for the EVGA prevision tool the cooling right now is at 25 which is the bear minnimum. How much do you reccomend cranking it up and is there a way it could harm my PC?

A 120mm won't fit. I used 2 x 80mm's on one machine and a 90mm on another.

Crank the video cards fan speed up till the sound become's annoying, then back it down a little, it won't harm anything.

For case fans ?

I used 2 of these , nice blue glow in a darkened room and helped to lower temps by 6c. (low speed keeps them quiet)

The 90mm I used on the other box was a high speed unit that came out of an older machine ( much louder ).

I've also used this , adjustable speed for when you want to exhaust more hot air.

Hi Geoff

I just read your post, discovered while I was searching for help on upgrading a PSU on my Dimension 9200 (same as XPS 410).

Had put an XFX 9800GT into the Dimension 9200 - no extra power connectors needed - and it works great. No real difference to the failed Gigabyte 8800GT it replaced.

Like you, I want to go with a better card - I've picked a Gigabyte GTX 275 - but need a more powerful PSU.

I can get the Enermax Liberty 620W Eco PSU here in Australia for A$123. Reviews I've read say it's a decent PSU.

Can I ask you: did you have to modify/cut the case to fit the Enermax 620W into your 410?

Was it an easy job?

Hope to hear from you.

Hilton

BTW: dimscrambler was the name I choose in desperation when all other more sensible options were already taken! I think my inspiration comes from "Midnight Rambler".

Sorry for the late reply, I just put it in no need for any modding.

There is a 1" gap though, but whatever I don't think it matters.
