The XPS 400 has two PCI slots. The ethernet network adapter is integrated on the motherboard, so it is not occupying a PCI slot. It is likely that the slots are occuppied by a modem card and a sound card, but it depends on the options you ordered with the computer. If one slot is occuppied by a modem, then that may be the logical choice of the board to remove so that you can install the PCI wireless card. Another option is to get a USB wireless network adapter, in which case you won't have to remove any of the PCI cards.
