Which Radeon HD 6450 cards will work in an Inspiron 620?

I recently purchased an MSI R6450-MD1GD3/LP for an Inspiron 620.  Although it's my understanding that the Radeon HD 6450 is a supported graphics card option for the Inspiron 620, my PC will not boot when I have this card installed -- the fans run (including the one on the graphics card), but the optical drive doesn't spin, USB devices don't get power, nothing.  Are there some other Radeon HD 6450-based cards that are known to work with the Inspiron 620?

The ASUS Silent EAH6450 works in every Dell I have ever tried including the 620.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching us.

Yes Radeon HD 6450 is one of the compatible card we have tested on this machine.

Does the computer work fine without the graphics card installed? Do you have any working graphics card that you can try it on this PC to isolate the issue?

To answer your last question, The cards we have tested on this machine from our factory are

  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GT420
  • AMD Radeon HD 6450
  • AMD Radeon HD 6670

Thank you.

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version?

I have an OptiPlex 390, which shares its motherboard with the Inspiron 620, and it worked well with a Sapphire 6450.

I ordered the ASUS card suggested by SpeedStep, and it worked perfectly on the first try.  I don't know if the MSI card is somehow incompatible with my system or just defective (don't have another machine handy to try it in), but it's going back to Amazon, and I'm happily using my new card/monitor combo with no problems.  Thanks for the suggestion!
