Would this Processor work with my XPS?
I have a buddy that wants to sell me a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 (3.2GHz) for very cheap and I just want to make sure that this CPU will work right on my XPS 720? I have a Q6600 right now. Hes asking almost $1000 under what it goes for new so this is something I want to do if it will work right.

I don't think the the 9700 Intels are supported on 720's:smileysad:

QX6850 yes.... 9770 is not supported.
If you get a 9770 to work, let us know ;)

I have a feeling that it will work,BUT you wont be able to over clock in the bios like the qx6850 or extremes.I do think this could be fix with a bios update

Few enough motherboards support the 1600MHz FSB of the QX9770. Plus it's not really worth the money anyway.
EDIT - There was a thread where someone got the QX9650 working in the XPS 720
