XPS 2720 screen goes black for couple seconds

Recently purchased XPS 2720 and love the unit, but have been experiencing issue with the monitor going black for 1-2 seconds and then back on. this may repeat for several times or be a one off thing.

I have noticed it more while browsing on internet (both chrome and IE).  i have updated the video drivers on the dell site and have bios A01.

Any suggestions to figure out the issue???
thanks

I updated my Bios to A02 long ago before any issues were observed on my system.

I would recommend updating the bios to A02 before starting.  Its your call

Here is the steps that I performed:

1.  Went to the Control Panel and did an uninstall of the Intel HD Driver.

2.  Rebooted my system

3.  Selected My Dell in the Windows 8 Start menu tiles

4.  Clicked on Drivers and Downloads tile in My Dell

5.  Scrolled down to the bottom to Video Drivers

6.  For the Intel HD Graphics Driver, I Clicked on Previous Versions to find the earlier driver

7.  Under Expand All Categories, I clicked on Previous Versions

8.  Then I clicked on 9.18.10.3055 A00 driver

9.  Then downloaded Video_Intel_W84_A00_Setup-30TJ5_ZPE.exe

10.  Clicked on Run to install the older driver

11.  Rebooted my System

If you purchased the NVIDIA GT 750M discrete card option, Windows Update has an update for the NVIDIA driver.  I installed this update as well.

All Done

Hi darengibo,

The Dell XPS One 2720 has an option to run the LCD BIST. Follow these steps to run the LCD BIST:

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Continuously tap any one of the OSD buttons to trigger the LCD BIST.

The computer will run LCD BIST and reboot upon completion.

Also, check if the issue persists in Safemode with networking.

Let me know the status.

Thanks for the reply Rajesh.

So I ran the LCD BIST.  It ran through all the different colors and rebooted.

is there anything else i do now or just monitor to see if the problem persists?

Hi darengibo/sud.1,

I regret for the delay in response.

Did you check the status in Safemode with networking?

Also, run complete diagnostics on the computer:

Awaiting your response!

I had the same problem with the screen going black for 1-2 seconds on my XPS 2720 system.  I read somewhere in another post on the Dell Site, that the possible cause was the Intel HD Graphics driver 9.18.10.3165 A01 update, dated 7/11/2013 on the My Dell, Drivers and Downloads page.  I uninstalled the Intel HD Graphics Driver in the Control Panel and then downloaded the previous Intel HD Graphics driver 9.18.10.3055 A00 dated 6/4/2013..  So far I have not seen any issue with the display going black for 1-2 sec.  Keeping my fingers crossed.......

Thanks tutcleo for the info. I will definitely try that as an option as otherwise the system is unusable.

So do I uninstall the 9.18.10.3165 A01 first and then install the roll back version?

Does it matter that my bios was updated to A01?  Thanks!!

Had same video blanking issue with BIOS A00 & A02, different screen resolution did not help. So far going back to previous Intel HD Graphics driver version 9.18.10.3055 A00 working.

So, question is, why does newest version cause this problem? and will it happen again in future releases?

Thank you for posting this information.  I had the same issue after downloading the newest version of the driver.  I uninstalled and installed 9.18.10.3055 A00 and it seems to have taken care of the issue for me.  I have the NVIDIA GT 750M card but there were no windows updates for it.  The black out started almost immediately after the driver update.
