XPS 400 Video Controller Not Functioning
I own an XPS 400 desktop that currently runs the Windows 10 Insider Preview OS and its Video Controller does not function and so it has trouble playing YouTube videos and it is completely unable to play games that it should be able to play. I once had this computer run an OS called Linux Mint and the Video Controller worked fine until I put Windows 10 on it. In the Device Manager the Video Controller is listed under Other Devices with an exclamation mark. I have tried to have the system search automatically for driver updates but it can't find any. In the past I used to think the Video Controller was that of an AMD but I can not remember why. Recently I looked up the original specs and it comes with an NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800 so I am not sure which it has and this computer did to my knowledge undergo some upgrades before i owned it but i do not know if its Video Controller was changed. Regardless, I have tried to get assistance thinking it was an AMD but nothing helped and i tried to download the drivers from NVIDIA but it still did not work as there is very little information on the Video Controller. Does anyone know any way I could get the Video Controller to work?

Windows 10 will need to use legacy vista drivers for vacuum tube video cards. XPS 400/Dimension 9150 can run windows 8 or 10 etc.
Older Nvidia cards cannot use the latest drivers.
340 series is the last version supporting the older cards.
Nvidia offically END OF LIFE END OF SUPPORT in April 2016.

However 64 bit versions of windows 8.1, 10 will require Pentium D 915 or higher with copper performance heatsink.
Directx June 2010 is required to put back DX10 drivers which is what vista uses.

You download and extract into a folder and then run DXSETUP.EXE as administrator.
After that you will have to go into control panel under Programs and features add features to windows and re enable legacy direct show.
Then install Chrome stand alone.

BEFORE installing this driver. You also have to add the feature back for Legacy Direct Show from control Panel. If you do all the right things in the right order it will work. Control Panel, All Control Panel Items, Programs and Features, Turn windows features on and Off,
Then do the checkboxes. You MUST BE online when you do this because it will whine about not finding the features and needing to download them from windows update.

Hi,
The problem is definitely to do with the incompatible driver.
If this is a graphics card which was shipped with the PC from Dell, You may check the invoice for the details and download the correct driver.
Else we need to wait for the upcoming builds of Windows 10 preview as it is still not the finished product.
Thank you

Thank you for your suggestion SpeedStep but I have understood everything up to "After that you will have to go into control panel under Programs and features add features to windows and re enable legacy direct show." Could you go into more detail about this step because I am slighty confused and I can't find Direct Show.

Thank you so much SpeedStep for your help because now the Video Controller works after i did as you said and I told it to run ATI 256MB RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition 32 bit version. In all honesty I never thought I'd get this to work

Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 can use Vista Drivers on older hardware.
The issue is that WDDM 1.0 is the max on DX9 and DX10 hardware.
You can never run WDDM 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3 etc but that doesn't matter because the older drivers work.
