XPS 400 question

When I start up my computer, shouldnt it say XPS 400 somewhere?  If so, where?  I hit F2 at startup and it says something like DXP051....something to that effect...Im not at my comp right now.

The DX # is your BIOS revision, and no, I don't believe it says XPS 400 anywhere on the spalsh screen. I'm not at home right now either, but I don't believe mine does.

I appreciate your info......I had my gf go to control panel/system/general tab.......(Im at work) .the only thing it said was Pentium D 2.80ghz.  I do have the XPS manual in PDF form on my computer.  It does have the XPS wallpaper as my desktop.  It did come with XPS packaging.  However, it says Dimension 9150 on the front of my comp.  So I was wanting concrete evidence within my comp somwhere saying XPS 400.  I dont understand why I see XPS 400 on the front of the ones at Dell.com and at the Dell store, but mine does not say that.

I'll look when I get home if someone doesn't answer before me.

One thing you can look at is from Control Panel/System/General Tab. You should see Dell XPS DXP051 at the bottom and to the right of "Manufactured and Supported by:"

Also.. from Start/All Programs/Dell, launch "Documentation and Support" and check the Onwer's manual and see if it is for an XPS400.

Also.. your Dell desktop wallpaper should be a black background with XPS centered.

I know the DXP051 motherboard is the one used by an XPS400 but I'm not sure if the Dim 9150 also uses that motherboard.

I'm not at home either to check the BIOS setup to see if it shows me XPS400 anywhere.

The reason for my question is ......I ordered an XPS 400 about a month ago.  When I got my comp........the plastic bevel piece says Dimension 9150.  This is unacceptable to me..... I sort of understand they are the same system, but Ive heard there are some differences.  Dell opened a store in my town and the service guy told me to F2 at startup and it should day XPS 400.  On the website and at the store the bevel piece on their XPS 400 says XPS 400.  He said if it says Dimension 9150, then there is a problem and Dell needs to correct it by shippin me a XPS 400 and me returning my current system......whatever it is.  Can someone please tell me ....how I can find out what system I have within my computer system....not on paper.  Im still confused....Ive heard the older systems say Dimension 9150 and the newer ones say XPS 400....if someone could clear this up...I would be grateful.

Thank you

Well, the only reason I would ship it back is if it wasnt a XPS 400.  I talked to Dell Support and the Dell Store service guys and they can send me an XPS Bevel piece that says XPS 400.  But I just would really like to know if I have and XPS 400 or a different computer disguised as a XPS 400.  If someone could guide me to a place in my computer where it actually will tell me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not knowing for sure can be frustrating!! :)

Since the 9150 and XPS400 have the same case, it's possible the manufacturing line grabbed a 9150 case by mistake. If it were me, I would definitely want the bevel to show XPS 400, but as long as it has all the hardware and options I paid for, I'd probably live with it only because I wouldn't want to have to repackage it and go through the hassle of returning it. But that's me!

Good luck and I hope you have what you paid for and they can correct the bevel logo!

I understand the XPS 400 and 9150 are the same systems. I'm in the UK so my system is badged DIMENSION 9150, but if I purchased it in the US it would have been badged XPS 400. Another example of this is the Dimension 5150 in the UK is the Dimension E510 in the US.

Check out the US and the UK websites for reassurance and don't fret, you have nothing to worry about.

I understand you want the bevel to say XPS 400 but that is what you have. There is no difference between the 2 models. They are identical in every way.

The Dell XPS 400 and Dimension 9150 are the same system. I do not know why it has 2 different names. Perhaps for region reasons. However they are the same.
