XPS 420 ram and OS upgrade

I have an XPS 420. I would like to upgrade to 64bit vista but I heard there aren't alot of drivers or software that support it yet. Can you verify what kind of software your running. I would like to upgrade with OCZ SLi ready ram as well 4x2GB will my motherboard accept it? Thanks

Re: XPS 420 ram and OS upgrade

You system will handle the ram. The system will handle the 64 bit. What you need to do is take an inventory of your software and hardware to see if it will handle the change.

Re: XPS 420 ram and OS upgrade

I have a 420 and "upgraded" (clean install) to 64-bit. It was the best decision I ever made. I have 1 game (obscure older game) that I haven't figured out how to get to run in vista 64 - that is the only issue I can recall in the months I converted...

I don't know about that memory, but I do know four of these work.

XPS 420 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit - Q6700 - 8 GB 800 MHZ Mushkin RAM - 2 500 GB Samsung - 425 Watt PSU

Nvidia 8800gt - 24" Gateway LCD

Can you tell me what are some of the software programs you're running?

Thanks

Re: XPS 420 ram and OS upgrade

I have been told that these work quite well on the XPS 420.

I have not tried them so I cannot verify this.

But the price looks good. Hope this helps.

Re: XPS 420 ram and OS upgrade

I've just upgraded to 64 bit Vista on my XPS 420, and I haven't yet found a program that doesn't run on Vista x64. Also Vista x64 can run most 32 bit programs fine using WoW64. With Vista x64 becoming more popular, especially with people reaching the  3GB limit in 32 bit Vista, there are almost always 64 bit program equivalents or drivers.

I've also found Vista x64 to  be a lot quicker to boot up, and a bit snappier, then my previous 32 bit Vista although part of that could be due to the new install. It's well worth the upgrade in my opinion.

(EDIT: hehe, didn't see that you'd already installed Vista x64 - I'm not used to seeing only 3 posts per page).
