XPS 700 motherboard
I know that the XPS 700 uses the old form factor and that the new motherboards do not work. I was looking at the mITX, http://www.ncix.ca/products/?sku=71117&vpn=P8H77-I&manufacture=ASUS, form factor. Do you think it would work in the system as an upgrade. (My old board is now fried and I hate to waste a good,, all be it heavy, case. The psu is still good all so.
Would the miTX work in the case?

Hi theoldworkhorse,
XPS 700 uses BTX form factor motherboards and would not be able to accommodate a mITX motherboard. You may consider purchasing a BTX form factor motherboards available online. You may refer to link Here.
As the BTX form factor motherboards have been discontinued, I did some research online and found an individual project in which a user was able to successfully convert BTX chassis to an ATX chassis and was able to use an ATX motherboard in it. You may refer to link Here.
Note : Dell has not tested the above conversion and does not recommend changing the original system configuration.
For replacing the motherboard, you may refer to instructions in Service Manual Here.
Note : Please refer to safety instructions in the manual prior replacing motherboard.
Hope this helps.

I'd suggest a replacement motherboard, and there are plenty available on eBay. Or, perhaps, your old board is repairable?
