XPS 720 Ram upgrade Question

Hey, I purchased my XPS 720 Vista 32-Bit in December 07' with 2/4 Ram sticks.

(2) 1GB Nanya PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2-800 240 pin CL 4 1.8V

I'm looking to add more RAM to my system but not sure what to buy.  Does anyone know how many Mgz's the Motherboard can push?  Should I go with 2 more sticks of the same speed & type or even look into 2Gig sticks?  I know XP can only push about 3.8 gig's but I guess even RAM needs RAM so not overly concerned with having too much RAM.

Also.  If I decided to purchase 2 sticks with a higher Megahertz will that negatively reflect on my system?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Kiso, Welcome to DCF

If you are planning to stay with 32-Bit OS, stay with maximum 3 Gig, as that is about the max a 32-Bit OS will be able to address, anything more will be a waste.

If you plan to move to 64-Bit OS, you can invest in 4 to 8 Gig total.

The MoBo in your system is maxed out to 2Gig per RAM slot.

Your system will automatically run at the speed of the lowest RAM you are using.

IMHO, stay with same RAM specs for ALL slots.

And more so, invest in 64-Bit and go for at least 4Gig (4x1Gig) ... preferrably 8Gig (4x2Gig)

Peace

Thanks for the replies!!!  So if I wanted to go to the 64 bit version of windows does that mean I need another motherborad and chip?  Or can the 720 handle the software upgrade?

No, 64bit will work with what you have. You just need the proper 64bit drivers.

The 720 will handle the 64 bit with ease. In fact if your hardware and software will support it I would highly recommend the switch..

It run very very well on my system and has handled anything I have thrown at it including my games.

I have an XPS 420. I would like to upgrade to 64bit vista but I heard there aren't alot of drivers or software that support it yet. Can you verify what kind of software your running. I would like to upgrade with OCZ SLi ready ram as well 4x2GB will my motherboard accept it?

Thanks
