If you want to stay with just one 9800 you wont need to upgrade the ps..just have to possible get an adapter for the second 6 pin connector...

E8400 processors will run on the rig if you upgrade to A05 bios and run well on air cooling..

Ditch the Dell ram..Go with OCZ or Crucial..I am very partial to the OCZ mem works great and any issues their tech support is hands down one of the best in the business..

Dump the Physics card..nothing supports it and now that Nvidia owns them they are more than likely gonna be included into the core structure of their new card.

Possible pick up another 500 gig for added storage and backups..not a fan of Raid but that is another possibility..

will these work just as well without the spd update ?

either of these would work very well...flip a coin...as far as i am concerned...those 1 gig timings are better than mine.. 4-4-4-15...like the 2gigs sticks too..

the SPD update that gdwrnch wrote about was to lower the mem voltage requirement from 2.3 to 2.1 volts. So it would not be necessary for either of these choices.
