XPS 730x - Cant post after 3tb installation

I have an XPS 730x, I think its a 2007.

I installed a Seagate SATA drive, it recognised the drive, I ran the Seagate DiscWizard software with no problem.

After that it will not boot into windows, I disconnected the drive and it boots right up.

Old bios version perhaps, obsolete motherboard, something else?  I bet this is pretty common.

Can you assist.. Thanks, Dan

Skyballdan,

We never validated 3TB drives in this model. The largest we validated were the Dell OEM 1.5TB Seagate drives. It would most likely need a Bios update which will not happen on this older model. The last Bios we released was back on 7/20/9.

Chris,

Thank you for the response.

I had thought this might be a concern, by the way my Bios is 1.0.6, do you know if that is the lastest?

They updated it once due to a failure under warranty.

If so, I might get 3 - 1.5tb OEM's if it is posssible, I do video work.

Thought I might get by as on the Seagate site they claim...

(I honestly took a shot in the dark)...

"Seagate has an alternative. You can now use Barracuda 3TB hard drives even using legacy PC BIOS, or Windows XP with free DiscWizard software. The free DiscWizard software allows you to configure your system to access a 3TB drive, even on legacy PC BIOS systems or Windows XP. "

The XPS saw the drive and I used the software to configure it, so I was

surprised to see the system not boot into windows.. I have an exteral 1tb drive

and have to diconnect it some days, as about 5% of the time it will not boot,

it hangs about 90 percent of the way through on the first screen before windows.

I have a 2006 MacPro, I plan to attempt the drive in there..

Thanks for your input, Dan
