XPS 8300 Windows 10 Broadcom network adapter disconnect FIXED

On my XPS 8300, after upgrading to Windows 10, the network would just stop working after a while (seemingly after some network load, but was never able to pinpoint it).  Restarting the PC would enable the network, but then it would eventually disconnect again, sometimes in as little as 5 minutes.

So I tried installing the Win7 network driver from Dell's site, and I no longer get disconnected.  Search for "R282233", or just download the file from this link.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=NDC29

Dell writes that Win10 is not supported on the XPS 8300, but after fixing this network problem, I don't have any other issues.

EDIT 2015-08-30

Let me try to summarize this thread so far.

Installing R282233 (14.2.0.7) fixed the disconnect problem for 11 people:
- shu
- ClutchRaider
- Ickabod
- digitalexplr
- JohnGosselin
- tj_moore
- Mr.JASmith
- digger1978
- rrao
- RunsLikeDell
- andpen

It did not fix it for 2 people:
- sig94nl
- miami3170

tj_moore and RunsLikeDell reported that just running the installer did not actually change the driver version. They had to first uninstall the previous drivers and all Broadcom software, or even that wasn't enough and had to select the "Repair" option in the Broadcom install package, as opposed to the "Modify" option.

I personally just ran the installer without doing anything special, and it did change the driver to 14.2.0.7. I assume most people did too. I don't know what the difference is, perhaps doing a clean install of Windows 10 helped.

Mr.JASmith reported that both 17.2.0.0 and 15.6.1.2 did not work for his XPS 8000. RunsLikeDell also reported 15.6.1.2 did not work for the XPS 8000.

But in another thread, MikeZ and B23x say 17.2.0.0 does work for the XPS 8300.

If anyone else updates their XPS 8300 to 17.2.0.0, and it does fix the disconnect, please report back.

I have a 2009 XPS 8000 that had ethernet issues after installing Windows 10.  I was getting tired of rebooting my modem when I could not reach the internet.  After searching how to resolve this I found this post and followed the instructions how to download R282233.  It solved all my problems and I have not lost my internet connection once.  Thank you everyone.

It's too bad this problem is still happening, weeks after the Win10 release.  I hope all upgraders can find this thread easily to resolve it.

I did not see the original posting about XPS 8300 Windows 10 Upgrade.  I have a XPS 8300.  I looks like there is a fix for the onboard Broadcom Network Adapter; however I have a Windows 10 compatible PCI Network Card on hand just in case.  I also found Win 10 drivers for SB X-Fi Sound Card & AMD Graphic Card which is installed on my XPS 8300.

Were there any other issues that you ran into on the Windows 10 Upgrade besidesd the Broadcom Network Adapter?

@mikebrown8183 After installing the Win7 Broadcom drivers three weeks ago, I have not noticed any other issues.  It seems many other people are running fine too.  I upgraded to an Nvidia gpu, but the AMD card is probably fine.

Shu,

Thanks much for the guidance you have here across this thread, makes it easy to see that I've experienced the same thing.  I was on the brink of going back to the older driver, than decided to google against the specific network card SKY and voila!

I've just rolled back to the 14.2.0.7 driver as downloaded from the dell site and am happy to hear that should take care of it.  I seethe driver date of 7/20/2010 as you do and so I agree that something seems off on that.   But fixed is fixed.

Thanks again

After 3 days of obsessing with this, I download/update router firmware. It seems to be working. At least for the last hour with several browser tabs open. This Broadcom driver roll back will be my next venture should this not hold.

Dell- It's not like they didn't know this was coming. I mean really? *** poor support.

So much for router firmware.  Problem seems to occur when I try to open email.  Not sure what that's about. I have downloaded and installed the R282233 download recommended by Shu @1000 hrs today.  Hopefully I will be in the "this worked for me" crowd.

1117 hrs. lost wi-fi: default gateway not available.  Any suggestions out there?

You could install a Windows 10 compatible PCI Network Adapter.  You will have to enter the bios to disable the onboard Network Adapter.  If you are not comfortable doing this, you can get a friend or computer tech to do it.

Personally I have not upgraded yet.  I have a Dell XPS 8300 with the onboard Broadcom Network Adapter. If the suggested fix does not work for me, I will install a PCI Network Adapter which I know is compatible with Windows 10.

I am a little disappointed that Dell did not come out with at least minimal Win 10 drivers for the XPS 8300.

I had the same problem with my BRCM adapter after upgrading to W10 on a Dell XPS 8000.

Initially I rolled back to W7 and the problem went away, but I later found this board with the solution to install the 14.2.0.7 BRCM driver dated 7/20/2010 (the "R282233" download) to fix the problem in W10.

Before upgrading to W10 again, I installed the "R282233" download. Everything went well and the driver seemed to work in W7. Sooooooo....

I upgraded to W10 today and soon began having connectivity problems again. When I checked my BRCM driver, it was 15.6.1.2 dated 1/29/2013, not the 14.2.0.7 I had installed prior to the upgrade. When I repeated the install from my R282233 download, I could not get the 14.2.0.7 to install over the 15.6.1.2 like before. I tried uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling without success. Each time I was selecting the "Modify" option in the Broadcom Installation which worked for me the first time.

Ultimately, I needed to select the "Repair" option in the BRCM install package, instead of the "Modify" option. This overwrote the 15.6.1.2 driver with the 14.2.0.7 driver.

Hopefully  this will save someone some time if confronted with the same issue.

Thanks Mike. I watched a vid.  today on how to install the hardware portion of the pci express, but BIOS....not sure about that.  I have a friend that I think can handle that.  You've been helpful.

I wondered about that when I installed the "R282233" earlier.  I've now reinstalled using REPAIR option. I assume (with the risk involved there) that I need to restart?

Ever hopeful.  Thank you. I will report back!

An hour and 40 minutes later....I lose connection, but ever so briefly, for just a second. Looks like PCI e card for me!

Anyone want to walk me thru removing the BRDCM factory installed adapter in BIOS.....(I only know this because MikeBrown so advised me..lol)
