XPS 8700 - Multiple monitors

Hi,

How many monitors will the XPS 8700 (D00X8714) support at once ?
I want to use my current 3 monitor setup which is 1 x 21" @ 1680 x 1050 and 2 x 19 " @ 1280 x 1024.

Thanks

Hello Steve Murrell,

Dell XPS 8700 is being shipped with the following graphics options:

  • Integrated (UMA) — Intel HD Graphics 4600
  • Discrete — nVidia GeForce GTX 660, 1.5GB GDDR5 (Optional)
  • Discrete — nVidia GeForce GTX 645, 1GB GDDR5 (Optional)
  • Discrete — Nvidia GeForce GTX 650Ti, 2GB GDDR5 (Optional)
  • Discrete — AMD Radeon HD 7570, 1GB GDDR5 (Optional)
  • Discrete — AMD Radeon HD 8870 2GB GDDR5 (Optional)

Only AMD Radeon HD 8870 2GB GDDR5 has the AMD Eyefinity technology which supports up to six displays. Supported display quantity, type and resolution vary by model and board design; confirm specifications with manufacturer before purchase. To enable more than two displays, or multiple displays from a single output, additional hardware such as Display Port-ready monitors or Display Port 1.2 MST-enabled hubs may be required. Maximum two active adapters supported. See AMD Eyefinity FAQs for full details.

Hope this helps!

It would be helpful to know how many ports (and what type of ports) each card has. I think the HD 7550 has only two ports, so it can´t support three monitors.

Also, is it possible to use simultaneously the two Intel graphics ports and the ports in the graphics card?

All the 8700 configurations that I have seen include one graphics card. So, the cards aren’t “optional”, but they should be. Why aren´t configurations available with only the integrated graphics?  Intel 4600 seems to be at least as good as the HD 7550.

I would second Raczo's questions

I too would also be interested in the outcome of this thread.

I'm still sportin a Pentium 4
- Total of four monitors
- 2 after-market video cards (Radeon X series)
- one 24 inch monitor (1920x1080) in the middle, and three 19 inch monitors (1280x1024) pivoted 90 degrees

I have been using this setup for years. The 1920px for long lines of code, side by side comparisons, graphic work. Two 19s are used for browsers in portrait view, and the other for email.

I have been looking at the XPS 8700 as a possible upgrade, but want to retain my monitor setup.

I am running 3 monitors on my new Dell XPS8700.

The only problem I have is that the screen saver doesn't work.

It works fine when I preview it, but when its supposed to come on (10 minutes),

it only shows a blank screen.

Which video card do you have that is allowing you to run 3 monitors?

I see. I have the AMD Radeon 7570. Do you happen to know if it can handle a 3rd monitor?

I don't have any experience with that card, but AMD's website indicates it can handle 4 monitors.

"Native support for up to 4 simultaneous displays"

Hi Allan

I have a PC XPS8700 —Nvidia GeForce GTX 650Ti, 2GB GDDR5  and i want to put 4 monitors but this is not working. I already upgrade Drivers and BIOS. I enabled Multidisplay into BIOS. But what is happening is as follow:

- When i connected 4 monitors in the PC, it just works 2 of them.

-The priority is the internal output videos.I couldn't see the others of the external Video CARD But if i leave the external they work.

I would like to know what could be happening?

Best regards
