On the following page under the XPS 8910 Special Edition configuration information is a list of general specifications.
www.dell.com/.../xps-8910-se-desktop
If you scroll down the page you will see the following info.
"Thermal
65W (standard); support up to 95W k processors with optional high capacity thermal heat sink (Special Edition only)"

Probably because of costs or just ease of use type issue. The Intel cooler generally does a good job for most people so why have a 'custom' solution for no reason? It could also be that the custom solution is for the 8910 Special Edition which is grey.

The second one (Y8T2X) is the only CPU heatsink/fan listed for the XPS 8910 in the parts page. The Service Manual page 84 for the XPS 8910 only shows the second one. The internal training page only shows the second one. Where did you get that first picture?

Perhaps that was an early promo shot. Certainly not what we are shipping and not needed.

I recently purchase a Dell XPS 8910 and noticed this as well. The CPU cooler depends on which CPU is installed. The Intel i7-6700 is a thermal 65W standard. The faster i7-6700K is 95W with a high capacity thermal heat sink.
The Dell website configuration page for this desktop explains this in the specifications.

I went to the 8910 and 8910 SE page and did not see this? Link or image showing what you see? Interesting that our Dell parts page does not list a second heatsink.

Y8T2X is not the copper heatpipe version with dust buster blower.
Its the same as my 3VRGY/Y82TX 8900 HS/FAN.

Hi SpeedStep on your desktop were you able to replace the heatsink to a better one if you were what one did you use ? with the 8910 how the PSU is placed doesn't leave much room to add a better heatsink

My new XPS 8910 with the i7-6700K processor arrives tomorrow. I was expecting the fan in the picture shown above as that is what it show on the sales website for both the regular and the SE under features. I realize that specs and configurations change, but if that was an early promo shot, they're still using it today. No matter what - I can't wait for my new pc!

Replacing on the 8900 is easy. Not possible on the 8910 because the fan is UNDER the power supply which is on a side car.
Cyrorig H7 works fine with a few hacks.

I received my new XPS 8910 this afternoon and before even firing it up, I opened it and took a look inside. I ordered mine with the 6700K processor and it does have the fan shown in the initial post. I'm not the expert here, but it does appear to ship on the standard PC (mine is not an SE) if it has the i7 6700K @ 4Ghz processor. Let me know if you want me to find a part number on it. Also, let me know if you want me to post a picture.
