XPS 8920 - temperature spike on i7 7700k

Hi,

I have recently bought a new Dell XPS 8920 with i7 7700k. The temperature on the CPU seems to have the tendency to spike from 50-60 degree to 80 degree even when on idle. If were to run less intensive games (Diablo3) it would avg 70-80 degree C and spike up to 92.

is this a defect or just plain bad luck on the silicone lottery? btw any chance that i could control the cpu fan to blow at a higher rpm?

Hi,

Please update the BIOS and chipset drivers to the latest version from the Dell Support site. Have all the Windows update been installed as well?

CPU fan speed depends on the load that the system is handling. If the temperature increases then the fan rpm will also increase, to reduce the temperature.

Are you using a program like HWINFO64 to monitor your temperatures? Have you looked at the Task Manager to check CPU loading?

im using CAM, Real Temp to check on the temperature. both showed temperature spikes even when idle. I ran the dell diagnostics and everything seems to be fine according to the test.
