XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues
The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

Well, my refurbished XPS 8000, SX2210 monitor, and wireless keyboard and mouse arrived today as the EDD and SDDs indicated. First they look great. I can't see any signs of use on the monitor, the keyboard and mouse look new, and the CPU has some very fine scratches on the plastic front (from use?). They are hard to see, I had to look closely to find them. It is black like the Best Buy versions. It doesn't matter to me, its under my desk, however I think the black looks great. It has started up without any problems. everything is up and running correctly. I'd be happy with the purchase even without the delays on new units.

Oh, yeah, don't miss the comment on costco. com about the fantastic XPS support from Dell with "guaranteed 2 minute response time from a highly qualified techical person". Is that "Bob" from Mumbai???

I just Googled "Dell XPS 8100" and it came up. Looks like they have it loaded and ready to launch soon. Last week I couldn't find much of anything on it anywhere on the web.
Nimche, I can't believe you are still WAITING. Will be interesting to see the price point they set for the 8100 compared to the 8000.

ON another thread there was a post from someone who was able to order a Dell XPS 8100 from a rep in Hong Kong. The 8100 is using the new i3 and i5 chips and the H57 chipset. These are the new Clarkdale chips that have the graphics on the cpu, so they use a smaller video card. The new i7 and i9 processors will be out soon, maybe they become the 8200 or the 9100, who knows?
So, our 8000s are not obsolete, yet. Unless you are a heavy graphics user. There really isn't a substitute for the i7 version today. But, there won't be any more 8000s manufactured.
The pricing on the 8100 is comparable to the 8000s. I have not gotten a delay notice yet, but, if I do, I am cancelling the order and waiting until the 8100 comes out. It is due out any day, maybe tomorrow!
We have all been had - Dell knew about this all along. That is why they put the limited time on the XPS 8000. They knew the 8100 was coming out in early January.

In case you haven't seen it, here's a link to Dell's 8100 product page. Not available to order yet, but that may turn over at midnight. Hope the link works, if not please cut and paste if you're interested.

Well my best friend TOS23 is back and my posts are getting deleted again. Hope to see you soon. Series of post deleters are showing up as TOS23.
I may cancel and order 8100, and probably wait another 200 days for that.

Base on Google, Dell webpage with XPS 8100 was updated and running an hour ago. So I am sure they have just put it there.

Ordered 11/29/09 will be at my door tomorrow after three delays...After reviewing the new specs for the 8100 I am thrilled I got this for the HUGH savings I got due to black friday sale....The new chips will be less expensive and with less performance that my i7 860..yes I know my chipset will be outdated real soon but with me upgrading every four tears or so this is not an issue with me...The almost 30% savings I got is just dandy IMO. The early testing on the clarkdalse chips due not even come close to the i7 860 for what I want it for.

Even though this thread says XPS 9000 delays, but since I started reading here there was only one person ordering 9000. So I am not sure what is going on with that. Are you planning to order one?

I have not done it yet...
EDIT: Its totally the same thing except the new i3 and i5 options. I didn't see any big difference. I haven't read the specs on the case itself.
