XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

I think the 8000s that we are waiting for is the best deal still. Everything looks exactly the same, while i7-860 chip still being the king. Plus I assume most of us got rather good deals on our machines, and these kind of deals won't be easy to come by on the new 8100.

Still patiently waiting. Like I said before, I it gets moved over again, I'll just go for a refurbished machine.

I agree. Although this change happened more quickly than normal, no matter when you buy a computer something better comes out within 6 months or so.  You can go crazy trying to stay on top of the market.  It would have been nice to at least take delivery on our XPS 8000 before the next model came out, however.  I have not gotten a delay on my delivery date of 1/25, so I am also still patiently waiting.

I just got a delay notice today on my monitor.  The crazy thing was that the original EDD was 1/18, which they upped to 1/11, even though the computer I ordered it with has an EDD of 1/25. Now, they have moved it back to the original 1/18 date, still a week ahead of the computer.

I ordered on the 1st of Dec with a delivery date of 16 Dec. After getting the email for the first delay (04 Jan Delivery date) I sent an email to Dell stating I wanted a refund that I would buy from their competitor HP.  I received a phone call the next day stating that my issue was elevated and received another call later the same day stating that my system would be delivered on the 18th of Dec which it was.  I am happy with my Dell 8000 XPS except for the memory problem I am experiencing now.

Just writing to inform all....I've been calling everyday for the last two days and my system is now saying shipped. Call them, bug them, email them...shove it down their throats until they get sick of hearing from you. Call often and complain.

Thank you for the info.

For the XPS 8100 lovers, it is now officials on Dell.com but you can not still customize it. I should cancel my order as soon as it is available just to make Dell more confuse. I will show them my service...

Its nice that some people got their orders shipped but if you at  least give us some details of your system specs and date and times would be really helpful to all of us.

I tried reading your other posts but couldn't find anything. Either you can post them here or add them to your signature.

Thank you,

STILL IN PRODUCTION...

Hello Everybody,

First off, I should say that I just put one 8100 together with same specs as my 8000 and it was $200 more expensive(I got a good deal)

Second, the OUTLET is full of previousley ordered XPS 8000 which it means they are working on our orders.

Third, when I did the XPS 8100 TEST, estimated ship date was 1/27

So I am little bit happier than before, lets see in the next few days we get movments over our systems.

Cheers,

Just built a 8100 with my exact specs and it was 168.00 more than the 8000 I bought.

I see that new RAM in these systems is running at 1333 mHz as opposed to ours that runs at 1066.

I also agree. While the new system may be an improvement on the previous, I've yet to read any reviews of the new chipset in an actual computer. nimche's link actually said the new integrated graphics did not perform impressively.

I purchased the 8000 after reading a number of reviews from various sources. I got what I researched and wanted. If I wanted something faster or cheaper or with a different processor or MB, etc., there are plenty of alternatives out there. The 8100 is only another alternative. Plus it'll probably take awhile before reviews on the 8100 are published or posted.

Besides, a similar configured 8100 to mine would have arrived almost a month later (2-4-10) and costing $383.00 more.

Rumor, again just a rumor has that dell and others are having credit problems for parts and hence the shortage.

Good catch.  I am going to end up putting 1333 in mine as well.
