XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues
The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

spoke to Dell again, now they claim that an entry on my order showing as BLU-RAY BD-RE/DVDRW DRIVE is not a Blu ray burner.
Delivery date moved back again to Feb 17
Can anyone who ordered a Blu Ray burner confirm how it appears on their order please??

Ha ha~ Yes~ I feel your joy, atuarre~ Congratulations!!!
I received mine today, just got it set up. The machine is really quiet, and I love the Windows 7 interface.
I was a little surprised that they actually included a reinstall DVD for my system. I thought I had to create my own :emotion-11:.
For those who are still waiting, I wish you all luck!
To summarize my entire experience:
1. ordered on Dec 26
2. first EDD: Jan 22
3. received an e-mail on Jan 19, first delay (asking me to wait for 5 more working days until they give me another update)
4. XPS 8000 shipped @ 9pm on Jan 22
5. received order today @12 pm Jan 28
Specs of my system:

Hello TDB53,
Thank you very much for taking the time to explain how to update my XPS 8000 Bios and Video card drivers.
You make it sound so easy and it probably will be, I guess, but I am just overly concerned with fiddling with the bios and drivers. I have never done that kind of stuff before.
I am just too cautious and afraid I will screw up the works on my new 8000 before I even have a chance to use it. I will give it a shot and hope for the best!!:emotion-21:
Thanks again and I will follow your outstanding directions!:emotion-2:

Congrats to all those that have finally received their computers and good luck to those still waiting.
Just thought I'd drop off this little news piece I read:
http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local-beat/Woman-Gets-Unwanted-Peeping-During-Tech-Support-Call-82206407.html
When you register your XPS you get online support with Dell having the ability to access your computer. I'm not saying that this will happen to you and that the typical Dell tech is probably there to help you but the potential is certainly there. Especially if the tech is overseas. It may be difficult to prosecute if something serious is compromised.

We're now seeing the first delays for people who ordered the 8100. Ordered mine the day after they were released 1/8. Original EDD 2/3. Emailed today with delay notice. New EDD 2/10.

@stargazer424 - I just got the same message this morning and have the same order date (1/8) on the XPS 8100 with no modifications whatsoever. I waited to order a i5-650 system specifically 1 day after launch. I know no one is shedding tears for us at only 3 weeks, but what a horrible outcome for everyone involved. I'm actually an Intel employee and don't expect delays from our silicon. We really have this supply stuff down to a science. I ordered this for a family member's birthday on 1/18 as the family "computer expert" with low expectations of getting it on time, but now this is embarrassing. What's your next move? I might try the Black Hawk team.

mfc23; from what I've read on here, the people who ordered mid-late December are starting to get their computers. So I'm going to wait for now. I knew when I purchased mine that there was a high chance that the original EDD was not going to be the final.
This is the 5th computer I've bought from Dell ever since a 33 MHz running Windows 3.1. I have never had to wait so long for one, but consider the situation. The economy is down everywhere. Dell obviously didn't expect an influx of orders or a lack of certain parts. I don't know the whole situation but I think they closed down one of their manufacturing plants. All of this could account for the mass delays.
This is interesting, if you go to the dell home desktops page, they have taken away pricing for the 8100. Looks like they are finally trying to get all of the back orders out before selling new ones. The only one they have listed is the weekly special. Its a step in the right direction not taking new orders until they clear the back order.

This is my 5th Dell as well. The biggest problem I have with it is not being able to talk with a live person to find out what is going on with my order. I don't need it right away but am frustrated by their lack of communication.

I have been waiting for a laptop ordered on 12/5 with delays similar to everyone else. A dell representative just called and told me my ONLY option was to cancel my order and reorder one with a different processor. He said Dell just wanted to be honest with me. It took 2 months and multiple phone calls/emails to finally get some honesty from Dell. So when I told him to cancel the order he says "ok, the reason you want to cancel is that you don't want to wait for your order". I said no, I thought you just told me that I had to cancel it. He said that was right. I told him not to list my reason for cancelling as that I don't want to wait but to put the real reason, which is that the rep told me that's the only option. Customer service has been friendly, although not helpful, up til today. Here are the specs on the computer I ordered in case anyone else with this same kind is having trouble.

Has anyone actually received their PC recently.? How long did it take? I have e-mailed, called and chatted and have not been able to talk to a person or get anything but some canned or automated response.

My husband ordered a customized laptop for me as a Christmas present and we are still waiting so I understand how you feel. He was extremely disappointed that his gift did not get here in time for Christmas. Our order date was 12/5. The delivery date has been updated about 10 times. I called Dell and finally found out that they delay is an out of stock part. They offered to upgrade to overnight shipping but they have no idea when they will have the processor to complete the order. Another person posted that they filed a complaint with the BBB. After reading that post, I did the same. I understand that they are out of a necessary part but they have not offered to upgrade/substitute another part to get the order out. They extended the ship date by about a week at a time. But now I'm pretty sure they had no idea when they would get the part. I feel that they intentionally misled customers because they didn't want people to start cancelling orders. So that was my complaint to the BBB. Still doesn't get me a computer but I'm hoping Dell will realize they can't treat customers this way. I'm sorry I don't have a suggestion as to speeding up the shipping of your order though.

Just today I received membership into the 8100 delay club. Ordered 1/9/10 and EDD was 2/3/10. This am e-mail saying delay-revised EDD 2/10. Nothing remotely exotic on system specs. Kinda frustrating!

Yes, I ordered an XPS 8000 on 12/29, got an EDD of 1/25. On 1/20 I received a delay notice. I contacted U.S. customer support, they "expedited" the order and I received the computer on Saturday 1/23. I ordered a monitor (23" full HD Widescreen) separately on 12/30, got an EDD of 1/18, which was updated to 1/11 then delayed to 2/2. I contacted U.S. customer support and was told that they could not give me a delivery date because they had no idea when they could deliver that model. They cancelled my order and placed a new order on 1/14 for a 21.5 " full HD widescreen. That was delivered the following wednesday, 1/20.
During the time I was waiting I came up with a need for another computer at one of my business locations, so I went to Dell Outlet and ordered and XPS 435T, which is now known as XPS 9000 (they are the same computer, just re-named for marketing purposes). I ordered that on 1/13, it was shipped on 1/14 and I recieved it on 1/19.
If you are in the U.S., you can call 1-800-624-9897 for Post Sales support. If you call between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. M-F or 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends (Central time) you should get a U.S. based customer support person. I think you will find them to be helpful.

tanpopo914: did you have to do anything to expedite your delivery? Called customer service or the black hawk team? Or did i just happen on its own?
