Xps One as external monitor
I have a Toshiba Portege works laptop that runs windows 7, and would like to use an xps one 27 inch as an external monitor. Two questions: 1. Do you anticipate any problems with compatibility? Will the laptop be able to adequately drive the quad HD display? 2. Will I be able to use the Touch screen functionality of the dell all in one? I don't know how much of the touch functionality is software driven. The laptop is running windows 7 not 8. In particular, I want to use Excel modelling and work directly from the works laptop but use the 27 inch touch as the display. Any thoughts before I make the purchase? Thanks.

I have been talking to a different advisor about this (Ravi) via PM, who now tells me that touch functionality is not possible while using as an external monitor. Please could you confirm that this is also your understanding - the above research from the specialist team advised me that it would work and to purchase a USB upstream cable (which I did):
1. Is this a different specialist team to the team that Ravi contacted?
2. If so, then which team is correct?
3. If the same team, then why are they now providing a different answer now I have already purchased the system?
Please note that this is my eleventh post on this thread to which I have received no reply or acknowledgement. Is this the right place to be raising questions like this? If not, then please point me in the direction where my queries will get read. I would be grateful for a reply from Kaylan-S as so far I have received two completely different answers to my one question. In fact, I would be grateful for any reply or acknowledgement at all - if only to confirm that my posts are being read.
(Touch has stopped working altogether at the moment, but I'm naively confident that this is only temporary.)

I too have the same question. Mainly the max resolution. I have my XPS 13 connected via a mini-display port adapter to the HMDI in of my XPS 2710. I can only get a max 1080 resolution, even in single display mode.
I did attempt to install a couple of Dell's 27" monitor drivers just to see, but setup did not see the monitor as connected. I cannot figure out if this is a Intel Graphics issue on my XPS 13, or a limitation of the XPS One.

I think I may have answered my question. My Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter has a max resolution of 1080p. From what I saw online, all adapters appear to have the same limitation. I have ordered a Mini Display Port | HDMI cable that will arrive next week that notes a max resolution of 2560 x 1600 in "Dual Mode" if supported. I will provide an update once it arrives and I test it out.
Cable: Monoprice (2560 x 1600 Max)
Adapter: Monoprice (1920 x 1980 Max)

I just came across this thread to see how to get the touchscreen to work, and may be able to help out with the full resolution issues. I have mine connected to a pc with a 780GTX, so I knew it had adequate power to drive the resolution. The problem is, a lot of laptops are limited to 2048x1536, which isn't as many pixels as what the 1440P display has inside the XPS 27.
Try searching your computer to see what video card you have and do research upon it and see if it's capable of driving the resolution.
If you can't find that, then try searching online for the exact model of your laptop and find the video card from a detailed specification sheet, and then proceed to do the above method.
Hope everything is somewhat meaningful.
