command and conquer generals zero hour lagging

while playing command and conquer generals zero hour, the game goes into slow motion, and lags pretty bad. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on. I have a dell dimension 8200 with 512 mb  with a geforce fx with 256 mb.
