desktops

I have 2, older dell 4600c computors running a dell E551 monitor that have had fan failures. After replacing the fan the units start to boot but then just prior to entering the desktop screen the monitor goes black and stops, the hard drive continues on its merry way but no screen picture.  At the time of going black the monitor function lites starts blinking.  Both computors exibit the same symptons.  Any help would be appreciated, thank you!  I'm new to the forum so don't lose me.

Either you have two bad video cards or the monitor is going. Do you see the Dig Dell Post screen on the monitor?

 I believe that 4600c has intergrated video so it could be that a heating issue has taken them out since you mention that you replaced the fans.

I would try testing the monitor on another system if at all possible.

Also are both computers plugged into the monitor or are you using some type of a switch box?

Since it will boot into safe mode it could be some type of driver issue.

Have you recently reinstall the OS by Chance?

Try this to see if we can get this to boot into normal mode. Have your current or latest video driver handy place it on the desktop for easy access.

Uninstall the vidoe driver while in safe mode. then reboot into normal mode it things with the video are sort of ok it should boot into normal mode.

Then once in normal mode install the video driver.

Also while in normal mode open device manager and look for driver errors with ! or X next to them.

I've continued playing with the units and have found:

1.  they will start normally in SAFE mode and continue to run normally for safe mode.

2.   monitor is connected manually to whichever computor is in use, (only one monitor)

4.   have tried to repair windows with a recovery disc and am now waiting for DriveSync to scan for devices (waiting, waiting, waiting) so far the monitor  has  operated  thruout  the whole sequence.

3.   An error message stored somewhere showed up:

DCOM got error "%1084"  attempting to start the service netman with arguments""  in order to run the servers

{BA126AE5-2166-11D1-B 1D0-00805FC1270E}

I haven't the foggyist idea what its saying.  Note this error message came before I started repairing windows.

Hello,

Are you connecting to the onboard video output, or to a video card?

Look in to the BIOS settings and see what it has listed for video? If the systems had video cards but no longer do, the BIOS might be set to boot from a card that does not exist.

I'm connected to the on board video.  Bios set to auto.  The system will start in safe mode and operate normally  (for safe mode)  the monitor goes black only on normal boot.  I have found an error message:  "DCOM got error "%1084" attempting to start the service netman with arguments""  in order to run the service  {BA126AE5-2166-11D1-B 1D0-00805FC1270E}".  Haven't found what newman service is or what it may be part of.

The error you are getting is related to your network adapter.

boot into safe mode and open device manager look at the condition of all the devices listed. Are any showing a ! or X next to them.

Hello again,

Since you have onboard video I suggest that you install the DSS file if one is available for your model number, And also install the chipset file.

Both of these file must be installed in safe mode since you have already installed some drivers and updates. I will add the required install order list below. Where do you see the error message? Is is a stored message? Or, a new message each start?

Note: Some devices may not function properly if the drivers are installed out of order.

Install your version of Windows.

Install the following software and drivers in the order listed below.

***** 1.***** Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling the operating system or updating all the computer’s drivers, it is imperative that this software be installed first.
Currently, the DSS and NSS are not required for systems with Windows Vista installed. This is located under the System and Configuration Utilities Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
2. Chipset - Helps Windows control system board components and controllers. This is located under the Chipset Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
3. Video Adapter - Enhances video performance. This is located under the Video Adapter Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
4. Network Interface Card (NIC) - Enhances the network controller for Internet or network access. This is located under the Network Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
5. Audio Adapter - Enables and enhances the audio controller. This is located under the Audio Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
6. Modem - Allows dialup capability. This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
7. Wireless Network Card - Enables and enhances the wireless network controller. This is located under the Network Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
8. Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards - Enhances the pointing device features. This is located under the Mouse & Keyboards Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
9. Other Devices
* Bluetooth Module
This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
* Dell Wireless Mobile Broadband Cards
This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
* PCMCIA/Smartcard controller
This is located under the Security Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.

Dell drivers and downloads page http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/.

NOTE: If your system download page offers a DSS or NSS file in the 'System and Configuration Utilities' Category. And you have already tried to install some drivers, you will need to reboot in Safe Mode to install the DSS or NSS file, and the chipset. Then reboot the system and install the rest of the drivers in the correct order.
