dimension e310 power supply upgrade...

Hello everyone.

I am in the need to upgrade the psu on my e310 that i purchased in jan 2005.  I just upgraded to a 512 mb pci card (Radeon HD2400) and next week replacing one of the dvd drives with a bluray player, turning my e310 into an HDPC :)  I'll have 2 HDs + 1 DVDRW + 1 BR Player + 512 PCI Video card, I will definitely need more 'juice'.

I've done some research online and read articles about proprietary non standard ATX psu's that dell uses or even mobos with different pin out combinations to match the proprietaries psu's.  Is it still the case with desktops built in 2005 or was that during dells earlier days?  I have a spare 450W PSU from a pc that I had built before I purchased the e310 that I would like to use.

thanks

If you have a 24 or 20+4 main power connector and the rest of the plugs match you should be able to use it.

If not then THIS SUPPLY would be a good choice

Your E310 uses a standard ATX power supply.  Just make sure the power supply you use has the needed power connectors (e.g. 24 pin or 20 plus 4 pin for the motherboard and 4 Pin Molex for the processor power).

Dell still uses proprietary motherboards but no longer uses proprietary power supplies on most of their desktops.
