idt high definition audio codec & windows 7

Hi, I just upgraded Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium and everything is ok but the sound.  I have a Dell XPS 420 desktop.

I have a speaker icon with a red cross next to it on the task bar.  If I hover over it it says "No audio Output Device is installed".  I have the IDT High Definition Audio Codec 6.10.5607.0 (05/September/2007) as the driver if I go to Device Manager.  I have tried using Windows to "Fix" this but it can't.  I have also tried using Windows to update the driver but it says I have the latest version.

Can someone point me to the latest driver which works with Windows 7 please?

The IDT is the wrong driver.  You need the Dell SigmaTel driver for proper operation.   HERE   is the Dell SigmaTel for Vista 32/64 bit, it will work for Win 7 32/64 bit.

The IDT drivers are too new for the 420 audio chip (IDT purchased SigmaTel but all of their drivers are later/incompatible versions).   Same way, do not install the Microsoft "HD Audio Codec" as it too will either not work or not work correctly.
