It would have come with at least the integrated audio, so try reinstalling the XP integrated audio driver:

If no go please advise, and if you go to device manager and expand the sounds section what is listed there, and is anything yellow-flagged? Do you have a speaker icon in the taskbar, lower right corner, and is anything muted there?
