problems with my new processor for my dell dimension 3000

when I put my new CPU into my dell dimension 3000 it doesn't load the bios, it turns on automaticaly and stays in sleep mode, but when I put the old one back in it works perfectly fine.

Incompatible CPU? Did you flash the BIOS to the latest version?

CPU upgrades in most computers do not give significant improvements in performance. Usually, acceptable upgrades are limited to those that the system was designed to use. Most efficient upgrades are increased memory and better video.

An SSD boot drive will give the biggest boost in performance, but I don't think they're recommended for XP.

It's also possible to swap in a newer motherboard and CPU; I have an AsRock AM3+ with 945 Deneb quad-core in my 3000 chassis.

What's the sSpec number that's etched on top of the processor you are trying to install?
