reinstall power dvd 9.5 without disc?
I am about to do a clean install from windows 7 to windows 8. Now in the process of backing up my files, and realized i don't have a disc with power dvd9.5 on it. I've seen it as a free download online, but not sure if that would be the same as what came with my computer. Could I just copy the cyberlink folder to my external harddrive, and then reinstall it from there?
thanks

Ok, I should have realized that your version of PowerDVD is not supported by Windows 8. So you can either purchase a full retail version of PowerDVD or use a free program like VLC Media Player. I can verify from personal experience that VLC works fine under Windows 8. Better, in fact, than PowerDVD.

Hi Jimbach13,
I think Dell provides all of these through My Dell Downloads now.

I looked there, and it was not listed under "my dell downloads". I forgot to write that above. Thanks for the quick reply

I prefer Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater to PowerDVD. TMT can be purchased from the Arcsoft store for $65 with the use of an online coupon.
VLC is also a good alternative, if you're not interested in Blu-ray playback.

Yes, good point. The current version of VLC does play blu-ray but only a limited number of movies work.
