resize browser windows?

Hi,

This is a silly question but it is causing me quite a bit of bother, especially when I need to use the full browser address bar.

My browser windows have suddenly shrunk to half size and if I pull them open they can fly back (even smaller) again. If I'm careful I can open them out full size by dragging, but when I close, then reopen them, there they are again - half filling the screen.

I can't find any obvious control for this, neither do I know what I did to cause this in the first place?

Help appreciated :)

Many thanks,

R

AOL & FireFox on Windows 7 Basic 32 bit, Inspiron 531. But all the browsers were doing this including Chrome and IE9. AOL has gone back to filling the screen after a shut down & boot, but I have no idea how to control the browser window size if it happens again, nor what causes it?

Thanks.

Does Windows 7 Basic have automatic window arrangement? To find out, click Start, enter snap in the search box, and then select 'Turn off Automatic Window Arrangement.' Uncheck 'Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.'

If that doesn't help, read me. Select your OS and version of FF at the top, first.

Thanks RD,

The auto option is unchecked and I left it unchecked. All browser windows have gone back to normal after the reboot. I don't know why the windows got stuck on 2/3 size though, you couldn't drag them fully open.

Open the browser windows to the desired size.

Then Hold CTRL and close them with the X in the top right corner.

Then reopen a browser and it should be the correct size and remember what that was.

... and hoped in vain it seems - the problem has persisted. A diagnostic may be that whatever it is, that is causing my browser windows to spring to one side of the screen, is also causing my desktop icons to de-sort, bunch up and shift to the left of the screen in a random block.

Could it be another program causing this? I downloaded some music the other day and iTunes always bursts onto the screen when I do this, however many times I cancel it. I am suspicious that iTunes is messing up all my browsing windows, but it could be something else of course.

Is there no way I can LOCK my screens so that they cannot bounce and stick to one side of the monitor; can I lock my desktop so that I don't have to keep rearranging it every day?

Many thanks.

There are archived versions of flash.

But Just Like Java And Acrobat there are also patch after patch after patch.

Archived Flash Player versions

When I have older hardware issues I revert to specific versions.

Thanks - there was one malware on board 'adware.shopper', I got rid of it. Fairly innocuous but it might have been responsible for the odd browser window behaviour? The malware is almost certainly a direct consequence of Adobe Flash 11 which is basically dysfunctional. In desperation I (and many others) have been looking for ways to download videos which won't play properly on Flash any more. Green light to malware - thanks Adobe :-|

Will update if necessary.

Did removing the malware solve the browser window problem?

Go to the Adobe Flash site and look for their tool to remove exisiting versions of Flash. That's the only correct way to remove Flash. Get the tool directly from Adobe, nowhere else.

When Flash is removed, reboot and download the latest version directly from the Adobe site. That's what works on my system running XP SP3 when Flash isn't working right.

I installed Flash 11 on my system running XP SP3 a long time ago without any problems. In fact, I updated to the latest v11 release ( .180) just this very afternoon.

Are you having issues with your antiviral-antimalware software, your firewall or ISP connection blocking the download? Are you using an account that has administrator privileges to do the download and install?

It might be time for you to do some housecleaning to clean up the junk that accumulates in Windows over time...

Oh dear. So far no browser problems but I am giving the situation time. For Flash I was earlier given a list of archived programs (mostly 10s). I uninstalled 11 but none of the 10s would download properly. Then I couldn't get 11 back on my pc, took an entire day to get 11 to redownload, the download kept hanging. I think I may wait now for the inevitable patch, 11 must be the worst Flash they have come up with - they obviously didn't test it thoroughly enough, just like all the Windows o/s since XP?
