single 16GB DDR3 in a dell 7500 or dell 5500 precision

I am wondering if a single stick 16 GB RAM DDR3 would be OK for a Dell precision 7500 or 5500. These machines are without RISER. In page 4 of the service manual it states:

NOTE: If any DIMMs are >30mm tall (possible early 16GB DIMMs), they must be installed on the system board only.

has anyone tried with a single stick of 16GB memory? For example I found one here [1]

You cant install random density and rank of ram.  Ram must be installed in banks of 3.  that means 3 sticks of the same kind is minimum.   KTD-PE313Q8LVK3/48G

You cant install a  4 gig then 8 gig then 16 gig.   If you use 16 gig modules they must ALL be 16 gig modules.  You cant mix ranks and density and speed.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, your answer (screenshot) does not fit to my question. The machines are _without_ RISER. This means single processor. Your screenshot is for Dual.

In a T5500, I have loaded RAM from banks 1 - 6       Size: 4096 MB       Size: 4096 MB       Size: 4096 MB       Size: 4096 MB       Size: 2048 MB       Size: 2048 MB#  It is detected as 20 GB properly. The command (in Linux - hope you do not run away now claiming no linux support):

dmidecode --type memory

# dmidecode 2.12

SMBIOS 2.5 present.  Handle 0x1000, DMI type 16, 15 bytes Physical Memory Array ,Maximum Capacity 96GB

Same for T7500.

Now my question again? Will either T5500 motherboard support 16 GB x 6 RAM?

As I recall there are 6 slots.  You can use 16 gig modules.  But they cant be joes crab shack ram or any ole tom rick and harry ram from zualili land.  SR stands for SINGLE RANK,  DR stands for DUAL RANK,  QR stands for QUAD RANK.

And they must match in sets of 3. and these are not Fully Buffered ram modules.  Still remains you cannot mix speeds and density and size.  240pin PC3-10600 1333MHz DDR3 RDIMM

The White Slots are the first bank of 3.  You put them in interleaved order. 1   4   2   5   3   6
