usb 3.0 card for XPS 9000/435T? How to add one?

Has anyone successfully added a USB 3.0 card to an XPS 9000/435T?  I found PCI-E x1 cards but they need 4 pin Molex power connectors.  How can this be done on this Dell model?

Thanks.

Assuming your power supply has an extra 4 pin power connector, it's just a matter of plugging it in. Now, if your power supply on the computer is the Dell stock one, it may not have none/any extra. And in which case you may have to end up replacing the power supply.

If that would be the case, do your research. Newegg is fantastic with people's reviews on items bought there and they always have a vast selection.

What about using a card with no external power connected but using a powered USB 3.0 hub to connect all devices?  Seems it might be cheaper and easier to implement than replacing the PC main power supply.

I installed a USB 3.0 card in an Optiplex 745 Mid Tower. I used a SATA y-cable with SATA to 4-pin molex power connector to power the card. All of the parts were available on New Egg.

Just installed a USB PCI Express card in an XPS 9000 and it works with an external Seagate hard drive, but data transfer rates are not nearly as advertised. So far the 3.0 rate is about 35 MB/sec, which is 2X times the 2.0 rate. Anyone else have this problem?

USB 3.0 speeds are all over the map based upon a lot of variables.  The speed of the USB 3.0 device itself, sometimes if the device is powered or not seems to have some impact on speed, etc.  I think the main bottleneck is the PCIe 1x slot that most add-in cards use.  The other consideration is if the PCIe slot is rev 1 or rev 2.  This can cause wide variations in speed.

I am trying to figure out if the PCIe x8 connector in my XPS435t/9000 is rev 2?  My usb 3.0 speeds are still somewhat sluggish and I just tried a USB 3.0 add-in card which offered an actual PCIe 4x connector with 4 on-board controllers and the speeds are not much better than the PCIe 1x USB 3.0 card I purchased previously.

Anyone know the spec of the PCIe 8x slot in the XPS 435t/9000?  Is it rev 2?
