Hi LuckyNeko,

XPS 8500 has only on PCIe X16 slot on which you can install a discrete video card. The following video cards are tested by Dell with this system:

  • nVidia GeForce GT620
  • nVidia GeForce GT640
  • AMD Radeon HD7570
  • AMD Radeon HD7770
  • AMD Radeon HD7870

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi LuckyNeko,

GeForce GT 640 has better specifications in compare to GeForce GT 620. You may compare the specifications from the links mentioned below:

It seems there's one PCI-e x16 slot (for higher end video cards or insane enterprise hardware) and three PCI-e x1 slots in the XPS 8500. Technically speaking, you should be able to install a low-end PCI-e x1 video card into the slot, but it won't be a very great card, really only good for displaying web pages and such on another monitor.
