Any problem for Win 8.1 to run on Dimension 4600 PC?
Hi,
I wish to use my old Dimension 4600 PC as my backup PC.
This PC is currently running on Win XP.
This PC fulfils the basic hardware requirement for Win 8.1.
If I installed Win 8.1, may I know if Dell have any new Win 8.1 drivers for this PC?
If no, do you foresee any problem in using this PC to serve the web, run MS Office 2007?
How is the performance likely to be?
Thanks

The 4600 does not support Execute Disable Bit in CMOS under security and therefore will not run windows 8 at all. This is true for socket 423 and 478 processors.
When trying to install you will get Error Code: 0x0000005D: Your CPU is not compatible.
Your PC needs to restart Please hold down the power button Error Code 0x0000005D Parameters 0x030F0401 0x756E6547 0x49656E69 0x6C65746E

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for the answer.
It save me from making an unfruitful and wasteful attempt.
Best Regards

Optiplex 620 systems with Pentium D processors and Bios A11 will work fine with windows 8.
I recommend the Mini Tower (MT) version due to its standard power supply and expandability.
