Blue Screen ***STOP: 0x00008086 error...
I presently have a Dimension 8400 that daily is giving me a blue screen that under Technical Information displays the following: ***STOP: 0x00008086 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). The only alternative I have is to push the power button to reboot. After rebooting a message screen displays a path which takes me to Intel website to ChipSet screen. I have download and installed the driver for the chipset, however I am still experiencing the STOP: 0x00008086 blue screens.
Are there any suggestions of fixing this issue?
Thanks,

After having read several messages regarding this error I have gone to the Intel home page and downloaded the file Infinst.zip. The chipset on my PC is 925X/XE Express Chipset Family. I have installed the Intel update (Ver 7.0.0.1019 dated 4/18/05) and will report back if the Blue Screen error stops.

By chance did you try the Dell January '05 chipset update before installing the one from Intel?

No I did not because I purchased my computer in March and assumed that was already installed because it is dated January.

So far so good. I have not seen the BSOD stop error since I installed the Intel Chipset update and I have been on the computer all day. I am not sure that this is enough time though. If I get the error again I will put a note on the forum.

I spoke too soon. Just got the BSOD. I was on the Internet and replacing a CD.

Out of curiousity I've searched Google, AltaVista, Microsoft support, etc., and have yet to find any reference to the "STOP: 0x00008086" code you and apparently others are getting with the D8400's. I'm wondering if it's a Dell BIOS issue with the D8400's. Do you get the BSOD with nothing else connected to your computer other than the mouse and keyboard?

I have upgraded the Bios to A06. All that I have connected is the keyboard, mouse, dsl line, and speakers. I just sent a message to Intel to see if they can add anything. I do not want to send the PC back to Dell because I have not lost any data - it is just an annoyance and should not be happening.

Sean,
I have an idea that it is something running in the background that causes this because it happened once on my PC while I was away from it. I cam back to the computer an the Blue Screen was there. Using MSconfig, I have stopped Norton's Ghost and Webroot's Spy Sweeper both of which I installed shortly after I purchased the PC. I will wait and see if the error stops. Do you by any chance have either of these programs running in the background?

Yes, I've had Webroot Spy Sweeper installed going on 2 months now, but I've had no BSOD problems since or even before then going back to day one when I received my system the last of Nov. 04. The other background apps I have running are Norton AV (no Ghost, or other Norton products) and normal XP-related services, etc. I do have NAV update set to automatic and it has dumped me out of a game to the desktop a few times when it "called home" but never resulting in a BSOD. You might try leaving your system running in Safe Mode for an extended period of time to see if the BSOD issue stops.
