INTEL VT support is in the Chipset & CPU as well as the Bios.  Updating the bios DOES NOT make a CPU that DOES NOT SUPPORT VT suddenly support VT.

You could get 3.5 inch to 5.25 inch mounting trays for the drives and use Molex to sata connectors for power.

Due to the limited number of drive bays and IDE controllers on this computer, you will not be able to connect all supported devices at once.

General Installation Guidelines

Connect CD/DVD drives to the connector labeled "IDE" on the system board.

Serial ATA hard drives should be connected to the connectors labeled "SATA0," SATA1," "SATA2," or "SATA3" on the system board.

IDE Drive Addressing

When you connect two IDE devices to a single IDE interface cable and configure them for the cable select setting, the device attached to the last connector on the interface cable is the master or boot device (drive 0), and the device attached to the middle connector on the interface cable is the slave device (drive 1). See the drive documentation in your upgrade kit for information on configuring devices for the cable select setting.

Connecting Drive Cables

When you install a drive, you connect two cables—a DC power cable and a data cable—to the back of the drive and to the system board.

Drive Interface Connectors

3

interface connector

Most interface connectors are keyed for correct insertion; that is, a notch or a missing pin on one connector matches a tab or a filled-in hole on the other connector. Keyed connectors ensure that the pin-1 wire in the cable (indicated by the colored stripe along one edge of the IDE cable—serial ATA cables do not use a colored stripe) goes to the pin-1 end of the connector. The pin-1 end of a connector on a board or a card is usually indicated by a silk-screened "1" printed directly on the board or card.

Hi Codename47,

That error does not indicate a hardware problem with your system but a failure to access a bootable drive, most likely due to forgetting to install the pre-OS RAID Drivers. Since your question pertains to installing the operating system from a USB drive (I think), please post your question in the Microsoft OS forum.

Good luck!

I plan to setup a NAS/HTPC on my GX620 box. I see that there are 4 SATA ports on the MB but only 2 power points. Is there someway to actually connect 4 SATA drives?

Physically, I would probably put 2 drives in the designated slots and 2 more in the CD drive slots. Just want to know if the 4 ports + power can be used.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I plan to connect two drives at the bottom and 2 more in the CD/DVD drive slots with 3.5" to 5.25" adapters. I will remove the existing CD/DVD drive itself. I want to specifically know if the power supply and the motherboard are capable of supporting 4 SATA drives at once.

That would depend on how much power the Drives use.  If the drives are SSD's they use 10x less power than WD Raptor Drives as an example.

I've been using 2.5 inch laptop drives for a while.  They are faster and use less power than 3.5 inch drives.

ICY dock converters let them fit perfectly.

Thanks. That is assuring.

I plan to use the 3.5" low-power drives like WD Green or the seagate low-power drives. I see that they consume only about 6W.

I am already concerned about the total power consumption of this box. I guess it will be < 100W in idle state. Any idea?

A Gpu tends to use more I would say more than 100W if you have 4 drives.  Add 75W if you add a basic card like a Geforce 8600.  Radeon 5450, 6400, low profile 7750 works fine. Newest addition is Geforce 7XX TI series that is 8 inches 1 slot and 75W.

is not enough space in a Optiplex gx620 MT for this kind of cooling system. I need only a fan which can be mount above the hdd's or anywhere inside the case. I use this forum because is specific to Optiplex. I know very well about that kind of cooling fans. So, if you know how it looks inside an Optilex I am hearing you. thank you very much for your help.
